Scottish SNP minister Gordon MacDonald had his account hacked on Sunday and his name was changed to Elon Musk. Mr MacDonald has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Edinburgh Pentlands constituency, since 2011. The account then mysteriously began tweeting cryptocurrency trading instructions from the fake “Elon Musk”.
The account tweeted: “If major Dogecoin holders sell most of their coins, it will get my full support.
“Too much concentration is the only real issue imo.”
The tweets were later taken down when Mr MacDonald discovered his account had been hacked.
Later Mr MacDonald tweeted: “Hi folks, please accept my apologies but my MSP Twitter account @gmacdonaldmsp was hacked yesterday.
Twitter wrote: “We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter.
“We are investigating and taking steps to fix it.
“We will update everyone shortly.”
When Elon Musk’s account was hacked in the summer of 2020, the account began to tweet mysterious money-making offers.
One example of a hacked tweet from Mr Musk’s account read: “You send $1,000, I send back $2,000!”
