Roger Federer spotted in emotional embrace behind the scenes before Rafa Nadal doubles

Roger Federer was caught on camera in an emotional embrace with his coach Severin Luthi ahead of the final match of his career. The 41-year-old will team up with Rafael Nadal in the doubles at the Laver Cup on Friday night to say farewell before retiring.

Federer’s final match is imminent with Europe teammate Andy Murray locked in battle with Alex De Minaur. Once the singles clash ends, the Swiss star will step onto the match court for the final time as he bids farewell to his 24-year career in the doubles alongside long-time rival Nadal.

The 103-time title winner announced his retirement with a lengthy statement last week and confirmed that he would play one doubles match at the Laver Cup, later choosing his friend and rival to accompany him in his farewell. And with the moment getting closer, the emotions have started to get to Federer as he was caught hugging his long-time coach.

During the second set of Murray’s match, cameras cut to the Team Europe locker room where Federer and Luthi shared a lengthy embrace backstage, patting each other in the back as they hugged ahead of the 41-year-old’s last dance.
