The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex could be forced to give up their last remaining patronages after purportedly recording a tell-all TV appearance
The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex could be forced to give up their last remaining patronages after purportedly recording a tell-all TV appearance alongside the talk show host, according to the Daily Mail. The Duke currently holds down three honorary military titles as well as patronages with the Rugby Football Union, the London Marathon and the Rugby Football League.
He could be set to lose them all should the Queen ask him to step down from his position.
The news outlet claimed the Monarch is set to ask the couple “to relinquish their links with any organisations passed down through the Royal Family.”
It also claimed the Duchess would have to relinquish her patronage to the National Theatre, “unless she can negotiate another position with them”.
The newspaper added: “When she was handed the role in 2019, it was seen as a major gesture of support and affection because the Queen had been patron of the London institution for 45 years.”
A source told the Daily Mail: “The interview has clearly come about because there is an understanding [with Harry and Meghan] that all remaining formal links with organisations will cease to exist.”
The couple was expected to travel back to the UK and attend a showdown with Her Majesty and other senior members of the Royal Family in the coming months.
The summit, informally known as the Megxit review, will revise Harry and Meghan’s role in the Firm.
The couple announced on Sunday they are expecting their second child, something that a royal expert claimed caught royal courtiers “off guard”.
