Naomi Osaka is through to the final of the Australian Open after beating Serena Williams in straight sets in a mesmerising clash.

Osaka put on a fantastic display to knock Williams out of the Australian Open and proceed to the final.

She beat her in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 with the American legend unable to answer her younger opponent’s lethal backhand.

The World No. 3 won all her break points while also serving double the amount of aces (6) that Williams.

Ultimately, the 39-year-old was outplayed – something that cannot be said many times during her legendary career – but the search for a 24th Grand Slam goes on.

Despite insisting she is not “obsessed” with beating Margaret Court’s record, Williams will be disappointed at getting so close only to fail to get to the final.

Osaka will face either Karolina Muchova or Jennifer Brady – which will commence later tonight.

And fans have been blown away by the Japanese star’s immense talent, gobsmacked by the way she swatted aside Williams, believing she is the true successor to her mantle as the world’s best female tennis player.

One fan said: “We’ve been waiting for #24 but Osaka is our new “Williams”, no fixing allowed please, let the best lady.”

Another wrote: “I have been watching Serena Williams since the 90s. She is amazing. Naomi Osaka can match Serena in power and mental fortitude. These are great matches. Serena didn’t play very well, but great win by Naomi. And top class as usual.”

And this fan posted: “Move over, Williams, Osaka is a star!”

“It’s a bummer but I don’t think we give Naomi Osaka enough credit. She’s really good and is the perfect person to carry the next generation of tennis stars,” a fourth said.
