Man Utd risk angering Erik ten Hag as chiefs 'plan second interview' after Pochettino chat

Manchester United could risk angering Erik ten Hag in their search for a permanent manager after it emerged that a second and final round of interviews are reportedly set to be held. It was claimed earlier this week that the Dutchman was ‘stunned’ after not being handed the job after his first interview with the Old Trafford hierarchy.

United are yet to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement five months after the club icon was sacked. Ralf Rangnick was placed in interim control of the first team until the end of the season.

Rangnick is widely expected to step aside from his role this summer and will move into a consultancy position within the club’s complex structure. United’s form under the former RB Leipzig tactician has been inconsistent.

Ajax boss Ten Hag and former Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino – now at Paris Saint-Germain – are understood to be the favourites to replace Solskjaer. United have a long-term interest in the latter dating back to his time at Spurs, with whom he challenged for successive Premier League titles and progressed to a Champions League final.

The Daily Telegraph report that a second and final round of interviews is set to commence. Ten Hag, Pochettino and a mystery third man are believed to be among those being spoken with.

But that could frustrate Ten Hag, who the Mirror claim was ‘stunned’ to not receive a contract offer following his first discussion with United officials. The 52-year-old is understood to have told United that money would not be an issue, while the compensation fee owed to Ajax would not prove to be a stumbling block.

The publication claim in a second report that Pochettino has already had his second interview.
