Liverpool star Mohamed Salah edges out Kevin De Bruyne to win FWA Footballer of the Year

Eight other Liverpool players received votes, while five other City stars were recognised. There were 31 players from 12 different clubs to have received votes.

Salah and Kerr will receive their awards at the Footballer of the Year Dinner on May 5. Kerr helped Chelsea women beat Tottenham 2-1 on Thursday, scoring the Blues’ second goal as they hunt the WSL title.

Meanwhile, Salah was part of the Liverpool side which beat Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday. The forward’s long-term future at Anfield is in doubt, with his current contract set to expire at the end of next season.

Liverpool are next in action on Saturday when they travel to an in-form Newcastle side.
