The US Coast Guard is searching for 16 people who went missing in separate incidents off the coast of Florida.
One search began after a good Samaritan rescued a man from the ocean 23 miles east of Fort Pierce Friday and then alerted the Coast Guard, which took him to shore.
The survivor, a Jamaican national, told the Coast Guard that six others had also gone into the water after their boat capsized Wednesday en route from Bimini in the Bahamas.
The Coast Guard also said it was searching for 10 people who reportedly left Havana Sunday in a 6-foot “makeshift” vessel. The agency said it was searching the Key West area.
In early January, the Coast Guard ended its search for a boat carrying 20 passengers that went missing en route from the Bahamas to Lake Worth, Fla.
