Andriy Yarmolenko breaks down in tears after first West Ham goal since Ukraine heartbreak

West Ham United and Ukraine winger Andriy Yarmolenko was reduced to tears after he opened the scoring in West Ham’s 2-1 home victory against Aston Villa. The former Borussia Dortmund was overcome with emotion after he came off the bench to put the Hammers ahead in the second half.

Every single West Ham player formed a circle around the emotional striker, while the London Stadium greeted his goal with a standing ovation.

Yarmolenko recently travelled to Poland to help get his family out of Ukraine, as Russian forces continue to invade the country.

564 civilians and 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers are believed to have been killed since Russia began the attack on the Eastern European country.

But Yarmolenko returned to east London in time to face Steven Gerrard’s side and his influence from the bench was priceless.
