Last April, ahead of the semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester City, Lineker got the BBC production crew to include Shearer on a list of clubs to have won the FA Cup less than former Arsenal and Blues left-back Ashley Cole.
Shearer was, of course, at the bottom. Lineker said: “That’s one more than Manchester City, also one more than Newcastle – whose six wins, of course, don’t feature Alan Shearer. He’s down the list there right at the bottom.”
Shearer responded: “How long did it take you to do that graphic, Gary?”. To which Lineker replied: “A special request that was, a special request.”
